untouchable

Some days I miss you
like a drug
the time in between
irrelevant
and I crave the hit
that is you

Some days you disappoint
too lost in the haze
of the old days
when we were too broken
to understand
the hand extended
a lifeline
covered in shattered glass
that promised everything
and gave us nothing
but blood

Some days you're like
I'm in love
and my heart is a cheater
for the dream
that is you
though I know better
to show my hand
in our endless game
of strip poker
that'll leave us both naked
and lonely

On my worst days
I wonder
what we could have been
if we hadn't
promised ourselves
untouchable

Because nothing good
can ever come
from the way
our chaos collides
