The Pursuit of Pleasure

The pursuit of pleasure
is a battle that discomfort often loses
and the lessons we're meant to learn
are cast adrift in the seas of nonchalance
the call to action - ignored
an insurmountable hurdle awaits
stepping out of the comfort zone
highway to the danger zone

Seared into the synapses of the mind
flashed, frozen, timeless
encapsulated by its lull
compelled by autonomous instinct
we are mindlessly drawn to it
without question or judgement
under its spell, the first thing we want
is usually the last thing we need

one's pleasure is another's pain.
I often wonder if being happy is even worth it.
we climb to the top of the peak
only to be kicked off the edge.
life has a cruel way of balancing things.
we're meant to watch
seldom adopt and live.

we are resilient, I am, too.
stubborn and pigheaded to let go
accept defeat and pile on the grief
feels like a sin to achieve
something so fleeting, so serene
will there be judgement or indifference?
