excavation
In this cage, blood alone
will not break this bondage
it takes sweat
to excavate the key
that fits the lock
we can salivate
like a rabid dog
pushing against the bars
our ears ringing
with our own voice
beaten down
by the bouncing echo
our teeth will not gnaw
through this curse
we'll break by the weight
of our chains first
and our mile long howl
on the way down
will do us no good
we have to dig
all writers do
will not break this bondage
it takes sweat
to excavate the key
that fits the lock
we can salivate
like a rabid dog
pushing against the bars
our ears ringing
with our own voice
beaten down
by the bouncing echo
our teeth will not gnaw
through this curse
we'll break by the weight
of our chains first
and our mile long howl
on the way down
will do us no good

Truth said here, Ahavati. Creating is sometimes a labor of love and sometimes it just labor.

Dear A,
This poem has me reflecting on the entirety of my stay here in DU and its evolution. How much I’ve learned and continue to learn. Last three stanzas are how I feel by the second week of Napo but definitely worth the bloody finger nails as I claw my way getting to day 30. Love the insight within this write. H🌷

So so true, dear Ahavati.
we have to dig
all writers do > exactly that - I think that makes us writers in the first place.
Awesome piece of poetry.

I love the raw quality of the poem and it's application to the writer's task at hand.
Brilliant: "In this cage, blood alone

to excavate the key
that fits the lock
we can salivate
like a rabid dog
pushing against the bars

Also: "our teeth will not gnaw

we'll break by the weight
of our chains first
and our mile long howl "

It seems all we’ve been doing was digging… any idea when are we going to hit bottom?
