Perspective

You haven't broken me and I haven't broken you.
You might have held the knife but you didn't push it through.
The future keeps on coming, but the past we can't undo.
I'm scared but I'm determined to hang onto what is true.
So humbly I ask you:
is it too late to renew?

It's way past the beginning but we haven't reached the end.
I didn't kill your bunny and I didn't steal your bread.
The world keeps spinning faster and I kinda miss my friend.
I know it's different now; I'm not trying to pretend.
But timidly I ask you:
do you think that we can mend?

I didn't ruin you and you didn't ruin me.
I know I bruised your toes, but I didn't break your feet.
The music is still playing, I don't want to lose the beat.
I don't just have an olive branch; I brought the whole damn tree.
So recklessly I ask you:
would you spare a dance for me?

My therapist told me to chill out. (Actually, her words were, "let a little air out of the balloon". Same thing, I think.)
