At the Dock
standing alone at the dock of River Styx
watching where Soul departed those many eons ago
there's something waiting to be shown
movement from beyond the misty veil
shadows moved where life and death meets
through the thick air eternity whispers
invisible hands reaching through the gloom
souls move around yearning for passage
there's timeless no clock times the endlessness
souls shuffle playing the waiting game
Ferryman Charon steers the vessel
oars flapping on the cold waters of Styx
the lamp as if hope flickering gangrenous spark
illuminate faces waiting for absolution
I stand watching though I have no coins for fare yet

We wonder if souls stranded on the shore realize how long they have waited. Do they recognize each other? What happens to a good soul without a coin? Just things that we wonder when reading an interesting piece. Tight

The coins were actually those that were placed on the dead man's eyes, upon death, its for Charon. but what if there was no coin...Yes, I wonder about this too. Thank you ISM for dropping by and reading. honoured.:)

yes we knew about Charon's fee, but some families could not afford to bury this fee, it was needed by the living. We wonder if those remaining were in a kind of purgatory, if they associated, if they realized that they were dead

That's true. Maybe they would be stuck at the shore which means this side of reality, which could be why hauntings occur, where the dead made their presence felt. One wonders about association and realisation though. We have a ceremony here for the dead on the seventh day of death to inform them that they are dead and therefore to go on their journey to the thereafter.

May that boat be delayed for as long as you wish it! Some great lines here.
"Through the thick air eternity whispers
invisible hands reaching through the gloom"
I certainly felt you described one's possible tangled thoughts here in these lines. 😊

isn't it though. Eternity can be just behind the veil, a very thin wall and time could be like hands reaching through and infecting us with a sense of timelessness when we die...don't you think? yes, may it the boat be far out yet:) Thank you Billy for reading me. Not many can relate of understand these sort of thoughts.

Life and death meet at River Styx where the Ferryman takes the souls into between death and life....
Hades and those mythic names have completely taken a real shape and mingled in bone and blood with the real
human being in Greek Mythology, what is true what is false? thats the beauty of The Greek Myth

Very true:) its all mythology, whether its true or not is left to the imagination. I can imagine a lot of scenario about life after death, and people have spoken about near death experiences and they vary. Anyway, its the beauty of words to create what ifs, could it be or Maybes...thanks Poetic for coming by and reading. Grateful for your input.

The ponderings of such things go back to the ancients. As one that has held the hand of death and was given back to life I appreciate your poetic musings. You shared thoughts and dreams in grand poetic fashion and it was a pleasure to read you. Thank you.
