Sweet Promises and Lies
there's hope in trusting hearts
when a promise is made
hope's flame begins to burn
wanting to believe words
when another speaks
when promises are tenderly said
we're eager to open our mind
believing in the words another speaks
with so much trust we give
believing that each sweet words
are truth from a pure heart
we feel the love's heat
every vow is like a gold band
a bond that seems to tighten
with every touch and kisses
we begin to stand through storm
and through the turbulences of life
believing in promises every words
soon the presence is gone
the words of love and affection
fade behind the silence
the phone no longer rings
the door is shut and all is quiet
the chase is done
Deception cast a deep shadow
but we still try to see through the gloom
believing all the promises made
and so we keep holding on
hoping for tomorrow's bright skies
believing in promises to keep
realisation hits and trust is torn apart
seeing them with another
with that besotted look on their faces
holding close another love
armload of flowers
with a teddy bear bearing a ring
and if that other is your best friend
the shock and hurt
the feeling of worthlessness
engulf you tightly
so live love and learn
sweet promises can be utter lies.
