Seven days until heartache

Seven days from now, it'll be here
A day of heartache, a day of tears
The anniversary of a broken heart
A wound that never truly departs

We should be celebrating, your first year
With cakes and candles, laughter and cheer
But instead, we're left with empty hands
And memories of you, only in our plans

We should be singing, happy birthday songs
But instead, we're left with mournful songs
Of what could have been, what should have been
But fate had a different plan, it seems

We should be blowing out candles, making wishes
But now, we're left with heartache and misses
Of all the joys, we never got to share
Of all the moments, you weren't there

We remember you, in a different way
With sadness and sorrow, every single day
Remembering joys, we never got to know
And the pain that never seems to go

In seven days, it'll be hard to bear
The heartbreak anniversary, we never wanted to share
But we'll light a candle, in your name
And keep your memory, forever the same

So here's to you, our precious one
On your first birthday, under the sun
We may not blow out candles, or open presents
But our love for you, will always be present.
