afghan wars
have orphaned me,
in stages.
silent stars
weep over me,
for wages
overdue
cannot be paid
to parents
whose debut
to where hopes fade
circumvents
golden dreams
pregnant with fires
that ember
midst the screams
that past desires
remember.
paternal
orphan, they said,
when papa
got the call,
his blood war-bled―
my abba!
maternal
orphan, unfledged,
when mama
took the fall,
facing, post-pledged,
death's trauma.
no one's child,
double-orphaned
by life's death;
war-defiled,
still i defend
my last breath.

“In the common use, an orphan does not have any surviving parent to care for them. However, the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), Joint United Nations Programme on HIV and AIDS (UNAIDS), and other groups label any child who has lost one parent as an orphan. In this approach, a maternal orphan is a child whose mother has died, a paternal orphan is a child whose father has died, and a double orphan is a child/teen/infant who has lost both parents. This contrasts with the older use of half-orphan to describe children who had lost only one parent.” - Orphan - Wikipedia

The atrocities of war makes orphans, whether one parents or both, it is still painful. Good read Cabcool.:)

Thanks, Grace; I believe you understand deeply. We live in a broken world that is delivering only what has been told forth beforehand. But those who believe that also know that, at the appointed time, "Michael shall stand" (Daniel 12:1).
