Breakfast at McPherson's

Sat down in the booth next to uncle Dick's table  
Karla comes with coffee and a hello  
haven't seen you in forever  
how you doing   she responded with a smile  one cream or two  
Theron Targareon is telling me about his dragons  
while uncle Dick is holding court on his side of the room  
i yell over  tell him he's nothing but trouble  
with a smile and a wink he says  that makes two  
Bruce and Mclaren. Jim and Ginger some guy I recognize from school  
filling up an open table and quiet corner booth  
some kid from the back brings out the cinnamon rolls  
SIZE OF LAWNMOWER TIRES  
taste way better though  
i look back over at uncle Dick  
deep in some great story  
probably about one of his brothers  
everyone leaning in with there ear  
as though that story was brand new  
Theron reaches over to get the ketchup  
pearl diver in the kitchen soaking wet  
someone said the girls won districts    
last night was close but the boy's pulled one out again  
Rick asks who's gonna be Mistress Clause this year  
told him Dawn will be in that sled  
40 years on nothing much changes  
we just get older grayer and dead  
but i got to tell you i like the company  
if i'm lucky  
maybe someday i'll get to the top of the table  
where uncle Dick sits
