When we were young ...
she was studying photography
her time away from work
spent taking photos of
whatever caught her eye
you were busy
in the summer sun
mowing too deep grass
trimming dead branches
sun hitting skin
gathering warmth
how she loved you then
in those simple moments
just watching you
in your daily
you were not one
to smile easily
but you did then
when you saw her studying you
in the shadow and the light
her tripod was already set up
she asked for just a minute or two
while you were kneeling on a threshold
her camera already facing
where you were
she walked behind you
wrapped her arms around you
for just that moment
her chin resting lovingly
on his shoulder
the sound of the shutter
making that perceptible click
they were caught
captured forever in that moment
she was smiling
he was stoic
his blue eyes shining
we were so young
there are so many ways
she could remember him
this is the only image
she has held onto
faded and worn
torn at the edges
he was so beautiful
