The Unicorn in my Heart

 
In Spring I glimpsed a unicorn
half hidden by a tree
the bravest shining dream
roaming wild and free
All summer she stayed constant
a mirror for my heart
If only I'd found courage
to bring her close to me
By autumn hopes grew distant
when leaves began to fall
until I wondered if I'd seen her
as winter drew its claws
