Freebird

once upon a time, when i lived in Devon, circa mid 1970's. i was lead singer in a band called Mandrill, a type of monkey, which at the time, we believed was extinct! but that was before the days of internet, so you couldn't time in mandrill monkey to anything. nonetheless, we performed Freebird twice, in fact we only had 2 performances, then i left Devon, so i have no idea how things progressed, and i no longer remember all the lyrics to this brilliant song, but was always a freebird wandering from place to place, and whether people remembered me, i shall never know, it was just part of my life's journey as a mad nomad, a travelling freebird, flittering around,. my thumb was my transport. so it seems, and feels really really surreal, that i'm now meeting the likes of lord lieutenants, and mayors. when all i ever knew were peeps i squatted with. i will always have ups, and downs, but the last few years have been a tapestry of a strange magic that will stay with me forever, however long forever may be. it's now 3am, and memory lanes, are a curious thing, retrospection profound, and pleased, really pleased, that ive now met so many fascinating interesting talented peeps, and the last 18 months have been a trip into a wonderful surreal that i will always remember. i have never seen myself as a transwoman, just a hippie, that happens to be a woman born with one digit to many! xxx
