Between the bounces

Between the bounces

suspended
in an instant
neither on the rise
nor fall

A reflection
in the dirty window
of some old
antique store

Weeds growing
through cracked flags
moss colonises bare brick
Nature reclaims

Picked and stripped remains
of the fallen mighty
Oh the beauty of decay

The ball keeps bouncing
The eye of the storm
passes on

This instant
robbed out
buried in time
forgotten
To be rediscovered
some day
far from now

We
trapped forever
in this instant
knowing neither up
nor down

Between the bounces
