An old soul
When I look back on my life
What will I have learned
I know to trust my instincts
And to have faith in my intuition
Because all of those little niggles
were my warning signs to heed to take care
And in the case of my heartbreaks
I could have avoided and dodged the misery
But I also learned
That I was meant to have those experiences
Because each and every one
Prepared me to help my children
With their own setbacks, their disappointments
I was able to comfort, guide and advise
So gradually I learned
That all my experiences happened for a reason
And I am grateful for each and every one
I’m thankful I was blind to my red flags
And that fate did indeed have me covered
So to all those boyfriends who blindsided me
To all the mean girls at work who were unkind
To the school friends who body shamed me
And the teachers who wrote me off
Thank you, you were part of my journey
And because of you I became a wise old soul
What will I have learned
I know to trust my instincts
And to have faith in my intuition
Because all of those little niggles
were my warning signs to heed to take care
And in the case of my heartbreaks
I could have avoided and dodged the misery
But I also learned
That I was meant to have those experiences
Because each and every one
Prepared me to help my children
With their own setbacks, their disappointments
I was able to comfort, guide and advise
So gradually I learned
That all my experiences happened for a reason
And I am grateful for each and every one
I’m thankful I was blind to my red flags
And that fate did indeed have me covered
So to all those boyfriends who blindsided me
To all the mean girls at work who were unkind
To the school friends who body shamed me
And the teachers who wrote me off
Thank you, you were part of my journey
And because of you I became a wise old soul
