Image for the poem Chasing the Dragon

Chasing the Dragon

filtered hues of rainbow
filled the fantastic landscape
where wishes thought of, lived
during sleepless nights
with the colours of distant
memories filled the space
of his meandering dreams
he surfed on shiny surface

he didn't want to wake up
to a drab existence
picking meagre coins
that jingle in his pocket
in tandem with his dripping sweat
listening to old songs
from an ancient radio
plaintive songs of lost love

he went home to sleep
daily, chasing the dragon
knowing he was trapped
in the loop of his weakness
the grip of his despair
falling into fantastical land
where kindness  embraced him
without judgment.
