photo memories
I save all my photos to the cloud
get a highlights reel every day
and I wonder if somewhere down the line
I'll forget the nuances
of people, places, and things
because the past looms too large
in my memory today
get a highlights reel every day
and I wonder if somewhere down the line
I'll forget the nuances
of people, places, and things
because the past looms too large
in my memory today

Best thing is that some of things get fuzzier with time. Some things look better with blurry edges.

I studied and worked at photography for over 20 years since it fascinated me as a bridge between science and the arts, but I abandoned it to concentrate on literature when I saw the whole world switching to digital, and in doing so we all cheapened the value of each individual machine generated image.

I'm an ametuer photographer. Prefer the term lomographer, lol. I love analog photography. I prefer it to digital, though I also take digital shots. There is something beautiful and mysterious about analogue and never being 100% sure what you captured, from an artistic perspective. For every day life moments digital is fine, but for art analogue is better.

my dad used to take black and white photos of people for one thing he was color blind and for another he said they were most poignant mostly of what they used to call bums or hobos... now a days people steal images we post to the cloud well and our verses too...I like your old photos...

Thank you :) I agree that black and white is more poignant. It's much more raw and often captures more depth than colour photography. It's unfortunate we live in a world were everything is so easily stolen.

Dear I,
Your poem poses a very thoughtful question about aging and memory. Currently when I look at photos I’m reminded of things I’ve forgotten and the memories are fun, poignant, sweet. Will there be a day when I look at these same photos and wonder who these people are and where it was all this took place? I hope I don’t find out.
This is such an insightful write written with such grace. H🌷

Thank you H. Lately when I am reminded of the past it's bittersweet. It's strange how easily we move through certain periods in our lives, that at the time feel like they'll never end.

It’s too easy to disconnect from right now when we have so many ways to integrate with back then, which is literally right now passing is by. Your exploration of living in photos instead of living in the moment is really a mindfuck, and the more I ponder it, the more I wonder if anything happens in real time anymore.

For me, there are very few things that happen in real time. I'm always looking back or looking forward. I am grateful for things that tie me to the now, but they're often few and far between.

AI is like a dysfunctional parrot. Nothing it gives us is truly real even if it mimics well.
