Gotta know your name

I see you walking your dog
I see you petting the old stray cat
I see you feeding the birds
I gotta know your name

I know you don’t have a girlfriend
I know you don’t have a boyfriend either
I know you live on my street
I gotta know your name

Why oh why
Can’t I just get up the courage to ask
Your face looks really, really kind
But what if you think I’m stupid trash

I see you walking the beach
I see you talk to the guy on the corner
I see the dreams in your eyes
I gotta know your name

I know the tunes that you like
I know the coffee you always order
I know you leave a big tip
I gotta know your name

Why oh why
Can’t I just walk up and say hello
My brain goes blank every time I try
You look up and your eyes go through me, though

I know you’re out of my league
I know you’ll probably leave this city
You’re so much cooler than me
I gotta know your name

I see you packing your bags
Looks like you’re moving across the country
You’re stepping into a cab
I never knew your name

I’m walking ‘round in a trance
The stars are dimmed by the city lights
I’m feeling purple again
I never knew your name

Inspired by a classic 80s-ish shred-guitar piece of music that needs some angsty lyrics. Not sure when I'll get the recording done, but I'm hoping it'll all come together...
