The Battle for Love
I awakened
the inconsolable beast,
without any gaping wounds
to show for my confrontation;
but there you were,
as you always have been -
your smile lights up my screen
and it becomes
the lightning in my chest,
thunder rolling
beneath my bones -
here, I ready for battle
once again;
your good mornings
are my favorite -
sunlight upon the inky night,
a river running wildly
through scorched land;
my gratitude grows
with every single moment
you gift to me and the beast;
from their depths
I am replenished
