Rearranging my range of (e)motion
I stay away
walk on the periphery of people
keep to myself
stay small and nimble
strengthening
what I've learned
needs to be stronger
Trying to lose the penchant
for long distance damages,
where my depth perception
perceives things much smaller in the mirror
than how they actually appear
Forging along
each siren step—
a muscle flexed
under weight
that bears down
in welcoming
transformation
How it permeates
each cell,
lifting then receding
repetition, an anchor
soul soothing by concrete hold
Release, you endorphins!
scream through me
turn me inside out
rearrange how I disengage
from all the aloneness
where I usually find such comfort
walk on the periphery of people
keep to myself
stay small and nimble
strengthening
what I've learned
needs to be stronger
Trying to lose the penchant
for long distance damages,
where my depth perception
perceives things much smaller in the mirror
than how they actually appear
Forging along
each siren step—
a muscle flexed
under weight
that bears down
in welcoming
transformation
How it permeates
each cell,
lifting then receding
repetition, an anchor
soul soothing by concrete hold
Release, you endorphins!
scream through me

from all the aloneness
where I usually find such comfort

People could learn by this, but human nature what it is, people sink into their own mind's abyss.

I think it becomes habit to hermit and some are just unaware because they prefer to isolate... Is my guess.

Re: Re. Rearranging my range of (e)motion
Thanks for being here and feeling a semblance of what I had hoped to try to convey...
I think it's easy to become used to aloneness, it's when you're far too comfortable isolating that it might start to then be something of an issue. We're all social beings and it's beneficial in the long run to reach out to stay connected, which is oftentimes difficult.
Much obliged for the generous list add and your thoughtful comments, T
I appreciate you!

I enjoyed your poem B,
Great line:
where my depth perception
perceives things much smaller in the mirror
than how they actually appear
Training and movement is a panaceia.
I resonate with comfort in aloneness. But trying to be sociable is important too I suppose. Anyhow, good read!

Hey there, BTS
I am in wholehearted agreement with ensuring aloneness doesn't necessarily mean isolation. We're social animals, I'm set in my ways and enjoy being the one who picks and chooses who and how I engage.
Thanks for feeling that portion of my little stream of consciousness spill, it says much, I hope.
Much obliged for the kind visit and your insightful comments, my new friend. It means a lot to me.
Be well and be safe out there ;)

Thanks for stopping by... I think it's kind that you've taken the time to leave thoughts here. Just to clarify though, there's no lyrics here... It's a poem not music.
I wish I could right music that would probably be very cool.

Beautifully written sister
We often feel more comfortable when we isolate while still within the crowd. It sets us apart helps us to heal from our loneliness
To isolate to be alone yet never lonely is the goal
Love always

I didn't know you're a gym-rat...I mean bunny🐻💞🐰Although I am neither small nor nimble I love this passage,
"stay small and nimble
strengthening
what I've learned
needs to be stronger "
I wish I could develop the discipline to strengthen what I know needs strengthening.
I love the stanza beginning with "Release, you endorphins!" Oh that I could command my endorphins.
You inspire me again and again❣🌹

What stands out to me is how clever this is, number one. Incorporating a physical work out to tire the mind a bit, perhaps?
Needless to say, I agree with its message as I read along. Saying "Yep. Yep. Yep." to myself as I proceeded.
We mostly do our inner workouts alone, I suppose. But thankfully we share our mental muscles in writing. You a strong one, my dear. Flex it!
* The last time (almost only!) that I was in a gym, I was there to work on an overhead light in the main area. So there was my tall, lanky ass on the top rung of an eight foot ladder, stretching a bit too far to reach both ends of the light. Below me, a rather large, buff guy was watching me. He said "You got bigger balls than me".
I'm quite sure that I did not. But it sure made me feel rather strong. Lol.
You're a strong force, Susan. Never doubt.

I guess that's just my way, I suppose... 🤷🏻♀️

Hey there, my lovely friend... ;)
I feel like there's a difference from really liking my alone time (aka my aloneness) versus the ache of being lonely. Sometimes it's very possible to be overwhelmingly lonely even with someone in the same house...
'Soul soothing by concrete hold' was my mind's attempt at poetically alluding to the release and gratification I get from lifting weights and working on becoming stronger.... 💪🏻 🏋️
Love your visits and your thoughtful comments.
Happy Easter to you and yours! - 🐣🐥🐇💙

This took me back years into the world of solitude iI inhabited in my youth. I was a complete recluse in high school as the principal told my parents. It took a major trauma of chrysalis to break me out of my shell. and there was no small amount of pain in the process. But I am so glad to have done so and to connect with you through your magical words. Your poetry is a delicacy that I have come to know and love. And feeling the depth of your emotions is worth all the suffering of my youth.

Oh my darling friend!
That sounds like it must have been one helluva life change and a painful transformation, indeed. Like you've already discovered, on the other side of all that loneliness and pain, was a wonderland of opportunities. I too, am over the moon that you've been able to heal and see the forest for the trees. It's beyond heartwarming and truly consequential to have you with me along our mutual poetic journeys.
Thank you for sharing your life experiences with me, it's extremely helpful and deeply appreciated.

It's interesting that while on the treadmill (I'll listen to something heavy and fast), random thoughts do still tend to permeate and take us in directions where otherwise we wouldn't normally do. Excellent closing stanza and last line. Very relatable.
