Shape Shifter

I've inhabited many rooms
for varying lengths of time.
In each I learned
a new shape that fit,
and sometimes it felt like home
  (until it didn't)
and the people felt like family
  (until they didn't)
and the shape felt familiar
  (until it just
    didn't)

And I'd go through another door
by choice or by force
and learn another shape
in another room
and it would feel like home...

And another storm would come
and another wind would blow
and suck me out another window
into another room
and shift me into another shape...

And I'm starting not to trust
that feeling of home
because storms always rage
and there's always another room
and I wish I could just
find the one that fits
the shape of me.
