Holding Your Space
A sadness in you
I’m not meant to touch
tempest of pain
tightly to the chest you clutch
It’s alright my friend
I pass no judgement here
my place is not to mend you
that is for you my dear
Wishing I could calm you
that I might love you well
That I could know your truth
and promise not to tell
Witnessing your tears
wanting to assuage
sensing your discomfort
as they fall upon your page
In your darkness
that place where you rest
I can hold the space
but only as your guest
I will be with you
as long as you allow
you can trust in me
of this I will avow
I’m not meant to touch
tempest of pain
tightly to the chest you clutch
It’s alright my friend
I pass no judgement here
my place is not to mend you
that is for you my dear
Wishing I could calm you
that I might love you well
That I could know your truth
and promise not to tell
Witnessing your tears
wanting to assuage
sensing your discomfort
as they fall upon your page
In your darkness
that place where you rest
I can hold the space
but only as your guest
I will be with you
as long as you allow
you can trust in me
of this I will avow
