Dark in the city shines our girl
combat boots in summertime
bringing the fire to all things new
sunrise and untapped love
she's all ideas and possibilities
never pausing to grasp reality
you stepped right into her fast track
unprepared
and now scorched earth is where you stand
caught up in her orbit
sunburned without a plan
blindsided
And she shines so bright
you were blindsided
Under the chaos shines our girl
gritting her teeth in wintertime
daring the fire to shelter her
midnight and broken hearts

Oh yes, the endless possibilities and who wants to grasp reality anyway.
"Dark in the city shines our girl" and "Under the chaos shines our girl" too...
Brings back memories of London, other places, and crazy times too.
Really the whole thing just has an awesome punk and personal feel to it. Love it!!!!

I get all smiles when I see the expansive talents of many poets in here. Be it stories, painting, crafting, music, singing! It shows that our nature isn't strictly bolted to the one approach to creativity. This rock out of yours is a perfect example of that.
It's super cool!
And, we all have regrets and "what if"s. It's part of the human journey. We can't take every path that's presented to us. Most of us take the safe routes. It's common sense perhaps. But, there's always that day that we choose to go for something bold, and have no regret. At the least, it makes for great writing!

I wrote this just to create a story/character based on the music & a few key phrases. It wasn't until I got to the author's note that I wondered if it could be about myself in another life... can't say I have any huge regrets, but there are parts of me I'm still learning to flex & let shine, and the music-making is a huge part of that. I'll probably never run off to the city and become a rock star. That's ok.

Dear BK,
Never mind the fabulousness of the singing, that’s a given gush fest plus I’m totally jealous. I couldn’t sing in key if my life depended on it. What caught my thoughts when they surfaced was
A journey imagined. Abandoned for the “security” I opted out of the chance of a lifetime. While I don’t dwell as much on it as I used to when I was younger every now and then I’m given over to wonder. I love “our girl”. She has the chutzpah and gumption I could only dream of. Wonderful write. Wonderful song. H🌷

Dear H, you really are great for my ego!
As I get older, I realize how few barriers I've actually had to pursuing what I want in life. They've been largely internal or imaginary. I wasn't like "our girl" when I was the right age to make use of that gumption either! Youth is wasted on the young, they say...
