Bed Head
Wake up!
rise and shine!!
I'm off duty
so, get your booty
off my mattress!
I know I'm a haven
from overwhelming stress
but I'm designed for nightly sleep
not permanent press
nor am I a therapist
on your feet NOW
no sitting in long reverie
don't you have places to go
people to see?
now smooth me out all pretty
don't leave me a disheveled mess
you better not go from here
then downstairs to the sofa
it's time to take action
you've done enough relaxing
I'll be waiting for sundown
to warm and comfort you
give you place for dreaming
but most dreams don't come true
between my sheets
so get going, showing what you got
prove to yourself
and the wide world
that a loser you're not.

Dear GW,
I think one of the coolest aspects of this site is being able to tell a writer when they’ve hit the nail directly on the head. And you did. The comfort of hiding in bed when going through a major life transition can keep us from pushing forward. I really enjoyed the self talking and motivating aspect of the poem to make that push. No one ever tells you the length of time it takes to get from point A to point B when a difficult situation occurs and it feels like it’s taking forever. I think this poem reflects the courage it definitely takes for most of us to get up and face another day. Terrific write. H🌷
