Some time ago, I locked up my heart  
And with bull's-eyed focus
I envisioned its key as a dart, swiftly discarded

To see Happiness a caged jailbird
Here, freedom of the soul is unheard of

Secrets kept prisoner beyond golden bars  
Feelings en route to escape leave internal scars
 
Their fleshed-out tally marks serve as reminders
Of every night the pain of isolation almost consumed us

Emotions rarely permitted to break loose  
Avoiding embarrassment...
Yeah, that's the perfect excuse

For once, I wish you all could see the real me
But there's no invitation here for Vulnerability
