Foggy Thoughts
Have you every as a child perched yourself up in the window
Waiting in heavy anticipation for the arrival of someone that you know
Maybe it's your father's weekend to pick you up again
Maybe this time he wont lie like he's done time and time again
Just maybe it's the holidays and your grandparents are coming to visit
The most precious memories that you have are of their visits
You sat in that window watching as the hours slipped by
With your heart growing heavier and heavier and you trying not to cry
Maybe you're a hungry kid and the cupboards are all bare
Your mom went out to find some extra work to get some food up in here
You sit there at your perch, stomach growling, praying that she finds work
You know from experience that in a few hours it's gonna start to hurt
Regardless of the reason you're in tune with everything happening outside
Everything that moves, people walking and the headlights of every ride
You while away the time breathing on the glass and drawing different things
Ill shaped horses and trees, while your favorite nursery rhymes you sing
You write new words you've learned, maybe words from this week's spelling test
You pick out the color of your love ones car and you disregard the rest
Your heart beat raises with the appearance of every set of headlight
Your mom hasn't returned yet and you're praying that you eat tonight
Your dad hasn't arrived seems this is just another broken promise
This holiday seems your grandparents are again going to miss
You can barely hold back the tears, as with a sunken heart you feel a twist
Fast forward through the time of this foggy window, you left me feeling like this
Waiting in heavy anticipation for the arrival of someone that you know
Maybe it's your father's weekend to pick you up again
Maybe this time he wont lie like he's done time and time again
