trepidation

I say my vows with a solemn nod to madness
it is a reckoning with the darkness
I would avoid it if I could
but the spirits insist

tasting my sin they giggle
it is with trepidation I enter
into the theater of terror
where I lick my lips tasting the fear there

I tremble within but without I stand tall
a little ferocity and I see them
darklings of the horde they know me
fearsome they glower, I glare back
it's respect due, I've earned it

I walk the nether realm
conjuring my greed
rebellious demons gather at my feet
they entertain testing me

I talk the ancient languages
their faces morph and I see my family
oddlings of the host
we are and we are not enemies

the world outside shivers
they can feel us
sensing doom they shelter
the weak will be dined on
