Old Traditions in the Modern Era
I don’t know much about royalty or monarchy
I’ve never been a loyal subject to a king or a queen
Everything I’ve read about in the history books
Seemed so foreign to me (if you know what I mean)
I do understand about responsibility and duty
Of stoicism and endurance through difficult times
Now that this second Elizabethan age comes to an end
Many pays their respects waiting in endless lines
I have to say I do admire a strong resilient matriarch
The troubles and tribulations that mostly went unseen
Perhaps the strength and longevity attributed to this
Were the well wishes of “long live the queen”
But as I said, I don’t know much about monarchy
Customs seem rooted deep in the fabric in society
Some beliefs are embedded at the core of a people
And the queen always showed respect and propriety
I send my condolences to a family, to a nation
For a monarch in which the likes I’ve never seen
For old traditions kept in this new modern era
For in the memory of the living she’ll always be queen
Charles…
Well, I think many of us are still sad about the Diana
Then again, we all move forward and can’t be stuck
He has some big shoes to fill and a legacy to build
But at his age, all I can say is...good luck Chuck
