Image for the poem forlorn

forlorn

I could love you deep inside me
where the blue of me meets black
I ache in the cold without your touch
all these years in your presence
I need you in deep but said nothing

I can't tell you, no, I can't even whisper it
it would break me in the utterance
broken thoughts bring me to my knees

I linger in the darkness holding my heart
I ache in velvet tones
where canaries sing and whores die alone

I keen for your absence
over my brittle soul crushed when it came too close
rushing into you for a kiss
then nothing

I hurt in the emptiness that followed
down into a dark hole where loneliness caressed
taking more than it gave leaving me hollow
