Petals of Fire
Slow dancing alone
On the ledge of
The highest skyscraper
Wearing a long
Black gown chosen
From her closet full
Of orphaned dresses
Numb from airplane
Birds flying by
No longer wondering
Or wishing to cry
Gracefully moving to
Musical games of lost
Russian Roulette parents
Too desensitized
To hear the fear
Up high on steel
Concrete and mirrored glass
Reflecting her slightly
Crooked balancing act
With indifferent confidence
Her black endless dress
Swimming in the wind
Is starting to fade
Too close to the sun
Thread bare like
Her scorched charred skin
Any moment ready
To self combust
Into survival with style
Ignited by sun and air
Shifting into a
Polished inferno
Unafraid to
Multiply and sire
Skin & fabric tailored
Into thousands of black
Petals of Fire

Author's Note
Loved The Queen's Gambit on Netflix. The whole miniseries was great.
Who ever did the wardrobe was amazing. Loved everything she wore!!!
So much growth and independence reflected in her clothes. Yes - to me - it
was that fabulous. LOL
Considering she was an orphan - it had me rooting for her!!
Never learned how to play Chess but I can check your ass in Checkers. LOL
The Two Feet video has some of my favorite clips of the show if you're curious.

Loved it
You gave it justice A
No chess here either
Play a mean game of scrabble and old school cribbage
Lots of booze for Cribbage
Yo

Right!!!!
One of those shows you can rewatch and enjoy.
Enjoyed everything about it but her style
and quiet demeanor was a powerhouse!!
I can also play a mean game of Uno. LOL
Thanks for stopping by and the RL!!

Dear A,
I loved her wardrobe also. It was a great series. I enjoyed the stark and dark images in this poem. The orphaned dresses- that’s gold. “No longer wondering
Or wishing to cry” fantastic!
The sense of achieving despite all the apparent obstacles is what I pull from this. Never ending up a bouncy personality but one who quietly appreciates everything they earned.
As far as checkers goes…it’s on. I will wear you down and out with my signature backward/forward move! Bring it sister! 😉

Hi H!!
That is exactly what I was trying to convey in this piece.
Not everyone needs to be bouncy and happy to succeed - but you do have to have ambition and drive. The world is full of so many different people and learning lessons. Thanks for your snaps on my lines!!!
I feel her clothes were her fun personality:) We all express ourselves differently.
As far as checkers - I'm coming at ya amiga. hahahah
Too funny!!!!! I love the whole forward and backwards moves!!!
Except when you end up in the corner and you end up with a Mexican standoff. LOL
Thanks for the RL lovely:)

Hi NG!!!!
Right!!! I loved it. Great writing and dialog. These are the things I pay attention to when watching a series. Also - the scenes. To see how they move from one to the next and so on.
Glad I had you on the edge of your seat:)
So glad you enjoyed!!!
Thanks for the RL and commenting:)

Hi Relic!!
That is the best comment ever:)
Always trying to pull the eyes to
the next line and so on. If it's boring
people tend to not finish.
This is a longer one and wanted to
keep the attention span going. LOL
So your comment is genuinely felt:)
Thank you so much for the RL and support;)))

For some reason , the word "precarious" popped into my head, while reading this.
But then the poem calmed down, as if she rethought the consequences of being too near the edge.
Your write is awesome! So vivid, a full scale movie scene.
I was wondering what motivated you, and then I saw the notes added. I can tell that you really really liked the character you wrote about.
Wonderful poem! It's super cool.

Hey Styx,
Yes - her character was that bas ass!!!
The way she evolved and came into her own
was so empowering to watch. The character development was
phenomenal. Plus she had great style to boot!!!
Thanks for the awesome comment. Blushing right now:)
I like combining dark images with beauty. I thing they
compliment each other in a way.

This piece is a bit of magnificent, A.
The deamy essence that feels slightly off kilter twisting and askew, like only dreams usual feel, was captured here so vividly well. I feel that it's a brilliant testament to the quality imagery and atmosphere you encapsulated with your phrasing and word choices.... What a magical flight.
It reminded a bit of how dreamy her night thought sequences were; when she practiced the game on the ceiling.... So perfect 👌🏻
I often picture that chessboard on my ceiling before bed time, now, too.... ;)
The series was phenomenal and Anya Taylor-Joy is spellbinding, imo. Loved her in The Northman, too!! I am all about some Alexander Skarsgård!!!
Thank you for the exceptional read and truly visceral experience.

Hi B:)
Thank you soooo much!! When I watched her walk on the show sometimes it looked a bit like ballroom dancing. Great posture and such a great flow with rhythm in each step. My mind started
day dreaming and made this scene. LOL
Trying to capture scenes and writing them down plus keeping the reader interested is my goal:) So happy I got a magnificent from you!!
Anything with Mr. Alexander Skarsgard is amazing.
Love love loved him in True Blood!!! I have not seen The Northman.
Now I feel I must watch since you recommended:)

I enjoyed the orphaned dresses line. The way you write about the black dress leaves an amazing image in mind.
