Universal Joke

I held her on just one finger and she would whisper into my ear
While drying her wings of the morning dew, I would hold her near
Basking in the morning sun, the beauty of her really beginning to shine
With tears from both of us being reminded that she could never be mine

As her wings dried, there is a withdrawal, a detachment between her and me
The sun and it's heat moves slowly, so this was something that I couldn't see
Gradually moving in such minute increments, wings fluttering spreading her scent
The beauty of her mesmerize, almost comatize, she wants to release but wont relent

These fingers are harbors, her anchors, to me and my heart
But her flutters and yearning for freedom, means that she seeks to part
I live in frustration of the rising sun and the drying of her wings
Of her committing herself to the sunflowers and marigolds like it is nothing

Every rose and Morning Glory each receiving a kiss
Why should I feel as the cacti, being in love like this
Nectar and beauty found that the bees were overlooked and missed
Moths seeking lunar with butterflies fluttering in the sunlight is a brand new twist

I needed to catch her as a caterpillar or pupa, in her earlier stages
But now as adults it seems that our loving simply rages
Birds and butterflies locked up in minds and cages
The cycles of life took my boo through four different stages

There are only so many stages between what happened and what is
While fluttering on that finger, we discussed reasons that we should live
She begged that I accept things as is, and to please choose life
She ask that I please take a weird pleasure in her becoming another's wife

Nature had been cruel to the both of us, our existence is a part of the code
The universe showed us both something to long for, but could never afford
It sits back with Mother Nature and laughs at us until their stomach are sore
And while they chuckled, I continued trying to convince that know one loved her more
