hoops

I try to carve out time for myself
give myself a reason to smile
that isn't dependent on anyone else
this morning I stood in the wet grass
to shoot hoops under an overcast sky
and laughed at how bad I am
at sinking a basket
cause it's been at least 25 years
since I played

The rare shots I get in make me smile
though I wouldn't care if I missed them all
it's fun just to get outside
and throw balls at a hoop on a wall
and forget the worries
that seem to indefinitely claim my head
