the girl and the witch
the bruja laughed
spit in the blood and mixed it in her pot
with a few words fervently uttered
a look heavenward and she was done
her incantation a powerful one
she smiled within herself
the powers that be were looking out for her
she felt the night shift as the winds took her prayers away
her hex would stick
deep in the depths of the soured souls
turning the tides she stood in the rift
fighting dragons it was another day in her neighborhood
she mend the gap between the old ways and the new
the young girl would expect immediate answers
the old witch knew it wouldn't happen that way
she stir her pot and spit again
boiling away the bad intentions the girl inevitably brought
she was a young heart perhaps even a silly one
heartbreak was built on such
she burn with a fever for a boy
the witch understood
her chants rose and the child went away
her love to return to her
the bruja prayed for the little girl who was to be a mother soon
pregnant by a man full of dreams
she hoped for their future
then she brush herself so no pesky spirits stayed to play
slaying demons
she spit again
