Oxygen

I was here
gasping
a coal-glow ember
existing on fumes
nibbling the kindling scattered
on the floor
I crawl
sputtering in the dark

hunger in my veins for more
more than this life of drift wood
and leaf litter starvation
I spit at it
curse the gnawing growling grumble
that rumbles through the night

days of nothing but grey dross
sparks of embers scattered to the sky
floating far beyond the lowly existence
I can eek out in this wet forest

then you appeared
dripping muse like gasoline
feeding succour to the hungry
a black shot of debauchery
sloughing off reality
soaked in metaphor

and here I am
ravenous

I run head long into
you

Polystyrene-gasoline
Oxygen

I see a flare of what could be
raging
a blazing path of destruction
fuelled  by dark want
and aching need
