Lunar Flight

I hold this tiny worm in my hands
Its fuzzy and soft and has grand plans

One day it will become a moth
No longer alone or afraid or lost

But right now it’s just a caterpillar
That thinks I want to kill her

In a few days she will be a cocoon
My sadness grows, she can’t leave so soon

A month goes by and my baby hatches
She is covered in rainbow patches of silver and gold

I never would have believed you if you told me
That she would be so beautiful in her morning tree

I watch her dry her wings
And then I listen to her sing

Her song of light fills my lonely life
Now devoid of fear and strife
