rainy days
My balcony has become
a safe haven
for birds
pot plants
and a rambunctious toddler
It's been raining
like the heavens
want to punish the earth
and wash away
everything that's wrong
with the world
We've been trapped
in our four walled structures
huddled up
seeking warmth and entertainment
I drink tea like a tonic
against the cold
while my son plays
in the sheltered rain
watches the birds
and picks flowers
better left on the plants
Inside he pours water
all over the floor
like a protest against
the lack of indoor rain
but I fear the cold
will jump into his bones
and I can't bear the thought
of us both getting sick
while the deluge outside
mocks us and continues to fall
uncaring about those of us
unequipped to deal
with the flooding sky
We watch movies
sing songs
snack on lazy food
build blocks
kick a ball around
and have a million cuddles
My balcony has become
a save haven
for birds
pot plants
and a rambunctious toddler
Inside he pours water
all over the floor
like a protest against
the lack of indoor rain
My floor now covered
in soggy towels
that won't dry til tomorrow
Perhaps I should just
let him loose outside
in a raincoat
My balcony has become
a safe haven
for birds
pot plants
and a rambunctious toddler
on these half drowned days
that don't want to end
