Where's the Broom Cupboard
You learned
what's important
and what is not
You learned not to love
or be loved
to bite your lip
and keep things tight
because emotions
cost more
than your worth
You learned
money never spoke out of turn
learned to feel nothing
to stare through clouds
when churches crumble and fall
to walk on by
when the beggar rattles her cup
You learned these things
and that the problems of the world
were the problems to ignore
but from the darkness beneath your table
where roaches hunt for crumbs
while the dollar feasts on war
will you learn
before it's too late
It's time to sweep the floor
