To Forget
I read today a poem.
Where she pondered forgetting him.
I dread that day coming.
I do not wish to forget.
I do not want for the thought of him to fade,
into a shadow of a time long gone.
I want to keep him in my bones.
I want to shiver with the thought of him.
I want those memories to become the lines of age on my face.
I want to recall the way it felt when he touched me,
even though I have not felt that touch in ages.
I want to close my eyes and still hear his voice
as though he were sitting right beside me.
I don't want to forget him you see.
For he is my most cherished memory.
My favorite place to go when the world gets too dark.
