Listless
The once-vibrant forest
inside my mind
has gone quiet
reeking of dead moss
and damp things
no chattering squirrels
or inquisitive birds
not even a fresh breeze of thought
synapses – stilted
empathy – exhausted
motivation – missing
my body crooked on the couch
uncomfortable, slightly cold
feigning sleep
to deflect demands
somewhere there exists
a list
with important tasks
and genuine asks
including “time together”
Be advised
this is bound to be
disappointing
at best
even the ever-eager dog
is finding my presence
unsatisfying
as I languish
inert
empty
offering nothing
desiring
nothing
but
silky
dark
silence
