Parting
This morning,
before work,
it was over there
I stack-of-bibles swear!
the pillow-top queen
now nowhere is seen
where’s our bed?
you mean my bed?
moved to the new place
So begins the bifurcation
with Solomon-like precision
twenty-nine years
of accumulation
stuff of long forgotten dreams
equitably redistributed
half in place remains
half reassembled
in a smallish bungalow
a quarter mile away
Quick to adopt
new love-language
of amicable dissolution ,
no, no you take that
really? but I thought…
well you thought wrong, it’s yours
can I keep?…thank you!
these I can’t resist
they’re all yours
I insist
Old world now sorted
remember-whennings all said
so fare thee well….best of luck
I’m off to buy a new bed
before work,
it was over there
I stack-of-bibles swear!
the pillow-top queen
now nowhere is seen
where’s our bed?
you mean my bed?
moved to the new place
So begins the bifurcation
with Solomon-like precision
twenty-nine years
of accumulation
stuff of long forgotten dreams
equitably redistributed
half in place remains
half reassembled
in a smallish bungalow
a quarter mile away
Quick to adopt

well you thought wrong, it’s yours
can I keep?…thank you!
these I can’t resist
they’re all yours

I’m off to buy a new bed
