(I don’t think) marriage is a scam

None of your friends believe in getting married
They don’t feel the weight all of those words carry
‘Cause across from the fire I’m mourning the very
loss of the vows we planned & miscarried

Up in the mountains beneath shooting stars
They’re all doing drugs while we lay on the car
You look everywhere except my broken heart
‘Cause it’s too much a hassle to ravel up yarn

I wait for you to ask if I’m doing alright
I’m counting on clocks that don’t have the time
Drowning for people who won’t take the dive
Who fall apart and tell me everything is fine

And I say I need air, but we’re already outside
Let’s join the others even though I just cried.
Another meteor lights up our tiny eyes
Silently I wish that you’ll change your mind

Author's Note
Throw back to when we went to watch a meteor shower with his buddies and some chick started ranting about how marriage is stupid and a scam and people who want marriage are basically old fashion scum and none of them knew that he’d just called off our engagement the week before so I sat there trying to smile and act okay but deep down was shattered :)
