double helix

my virtue is honesty to a fault
I will tell you no lies even if it hurts
my smile without guile
will be genuine or not at all

if I hurt in the shade of doubt
you will see it in my eyes, these clouds
my voice will tremble with inflection
from the pain delivered

stained are my tears from years of sorrow
my trust is hard earned
so if my gaze seems questioning
I am silently observing,

little human cues will tell me if you are worthy
then I will test the waters connecting us
only being as forthcoming as you are

really I hope you dismiss me without another thought
even though there is something about me you can't articulate
leaving me to quietly digest what I like about you and what I do not
in the end, telling myself it's their loss not mine
