I Forgive You
Looking back
I wonder why
The light changed in your eyes.
The father I loved
Plotting my demise
With his lustful heart;
His roaming hands.
Discovering forbidden land
As he snatched the unripened fruit;
Devouring it again and again.
Year after year.
It became the norm
To live in fear
And secrecy.
Who could ever believe me?
I thought no one would.
For a time I hated you.
I hated myself.
There was nothing left.
I was lost,
But God showed me the way.
Kept me from going astray.
All the guilt,
Sorrow,
Shame;
He took them all away
As I cried and prayed.
The scars are still there,
But I'm healing every day.
So now with the love
And peace of God in my heart
I can truly say,
"I forgive you."
I wonder why
The light changed in your eyes.
The father I loved
Plotting my demise
With his lustful heart;
His roaming hands.
Discovering forbidden land
As he snatched the unripened fruit;
Devouring it again and again.
Year after year.
It became the norm
To live in fear
And secrecy.
Who could ever believe me?
I thought no one would.
For a time I hated you.
I hated myself.
There was nothing left.
I was lost,
But God showed me the way.
Kept me from going astray.
All the guilt,
Sorrow,
Shame;
He took them all away
As I cried and prayed.
The scars are still there,
But I'm healing every day.
So now with the love
And peace of God in my heart
I can truly say,
"I forgive you."
