The right words

someday
suddenly
without fanfare
they’ll flutter up from my heart
mingling on my lips
with the taste of your skin
then falling from my mouth
easy as a sigh
their naked simplicity
will drift and come to rest
a gentle kiss upon your soul
so warm and
so
right

(That ^^ is the original poem. What follows is the expanded lyrics for the song, based on the above poem.)

Someday, suddenly
the right words will come
simply arising
fluttering up from this ribcage they're in
mingling on my lips
with the taste of your skin

someday, suddenly
the right words will flow
simple and warm
I won't have to second-guess or tiptoe
I'll know that they're the right words
to let you know

tumbling from my mouth
easy as a sigh, naked and bold
drifting light like snow
coming to lie gently
like a kiss upon your soul

someday, suddenly
the right words will bind us
simple and true
the last piece of the puzzle
for me
and for you
