It is deceptively simple--but innate
The fantastic lies that plaque truth
Needing, loving, lusting --- a sentient
Waiting to be moved
We don't realize our old illusions
How easily they comfort and grow
More enamoured as we tease and hypnotize innocence
To contort and confuse
The safe soul
Our past was earned on merit
We were deeply burned and beared it
We once had such spirit,
Looked deep within to intuit
Frailty in smiles
Passion for miles
A heart that was tender, unfiltered and wild
Willing to wait and suffer and sacrifice
Though indignant the need, deep the disgrace
There's something to be said for
The honestly of youth
Over the wisdom of age
When there is more to prove
How vain to pretend saintliness
Of course, a darkness does abide
When such menace is visited upon women and men
The torture of her/his inner child
And as with gods/goddesses and myths
The"filthy rags" that are our best
Come to lay at our graves like tumbleweeds
All our righteous deeds and purity tests...
