POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction Hello. Poetry is my therapy, my refuge, to an extent, my my self esteem, and at times just an overwhelming joy.
Narcissus
Scratching my way to freedom
I found a respite from your cruelty
Hurling my tearful doldrums
Into outerspace
The hornet has its nest
And a hole will hide the scorpion
But you, my lovely serpent
Can't find a home in either place
A bitter, salty powder
Made from cried out dirges
Time to genuflect
Upon your righteous kill
What keeps a donor needing
A seeker constantly seeking
In lonely, broken mirrors
For one more soul to to steal?
The titan, breathless and pale
Slinking...

Corporate Blues
Buried in so many prayers
The lives worth fighting for
Sweep in and out of the city
Punching the numbers
Cleaning the tables
Absorbed in the condensation
Of the skyscraper windows
Mellow and lonely
The computer tech's only cat has cancer
And the dark chocolate
And the opening night sex tournaments
Can't abate the coma
Or Google away the aftermath
Of dividing her life between
Scarf shopping and Monopoly
Christmas on computer screens
Mortgage debt and disfigured means
Bead up on God's toy...

Spring
The gospel teaches pain as a season...
The winter concurs. Every winter
I feel like a drop in the ocean--
Damned a mortal lifetime--
Depraved--made to break every fever
And thirst and wait upon the Lord.
Thawing out my frozen bones
I stepped into the anticipation of spring; mild and clear, my soul's dedication
Tracing the leave's veins with my
thumb nail
The sun on my neck, the ice underfoot
A hidden verse for my heart alone
In this changeling, solitude was necessary...

Cautionary Tale
This is a beautiful film
You'll understand when you are older
This endless sequence of shadows and laughter
You can only relate in dreams
Can only feel with prayer
This is a consoling lullaby
You'll understand when you are older
Every word in your good girl conscience
Quite absurd--
The notion we are more than paper dolls
Spreading wildly across this dying planet
Recycling, dieting, rioting ideals of
Granite and stone--the hearts on loan
The ivory towers
Quite absurd
This is a lonely world
You'll...

Scribhneoir
A midnight yarn weaving into truth
A lonely impulse of delight
Drips the potion into my tea
Bleeds the sadness from the night
A timely relic of yesterlore
Bridges the distances of two shores
When tongues were still with terminal weight
The self I love and love to hate
I acquiesce to an uncommon will
To move the beast formidably still
From his cave in my chest, an alien thrill
To rethread the needle, rewet the quill.

Tomorrow
Svelte, soft and solid wings
Sing the fluid song of freedom
Over this degenerate congregation
A powerful noise, but not a law, nor
ownership
I am the river
And the shadowed wings above it
Morphing as a cloud
Cleansing and clearing all
Damning up the toxic debris
Of desperate foibles, lazy lies
Storied eyes of paranoia, hatred and
boredom
In the distance I hear a nightbird
Her notes are timely and clear
Whispered over wild rose and
honeysuckle
Harmonized with...

Words
Words...words like fragment
When our perceptions fragment
Beneath the weight of framework Framework of fantasy
Caught in digital fallacies
Fallacies in a Fortress of
Words...words like symbol--Sibyl
Her name has a place here too in our
War of the worlds--words...
For you, all for you and the vain Indifferences we once counted
Their significances against absence
And those words--words never heard
The all consuming I love you...
You and these words.

Hemlock brother
Yes, I could feel better
Bury my pain in the womb of your neck,
your arms, your bed
Candlelight, music meant to enrapture,
Tender, smouldering warmth of
passion's immediacy, uncertainty
If we told each other our truth,
how long would we be
Here in a double bind
Dear, your troubled mind
I'll cradle it, smother it with existential
wine--you'll leave it, no longer need it
To define you
I know you made it, self proclaimed it
Reclaimed your youth
And I'm so proud,...

Started to impress me
With your moon colored world
Your magical alphabet soup and your
Sermons of lyrical lies
Started with your "see no evil" womb
deep in your bed
While the rest of my sanity
Bowed in humiliation and dread
Your last deed of Sunday
was your last bid for a better time
Reaping the worship of a god
While your servants stood in line
Empty rockets roasting up for your
Mt Olympus launch
We're all fasted, pure and prayerful
For another round of commands
We've untied the yellow...

Used To
I used to watch love take over you
Now I watch love snow on you
And leave nothing behind
But the slushy,muddy remnants
Of long ago confusion
God only knows why or how
You could love me
It's a fairytale in a fever dream
But God, I'm grateful
For all your time
And those grey-green eyes
It started so melancholy
Almost like a sales pitch
Crude and pragmatic--
"Are you happy with your late model?
Come on down to Alexander
We'll beat any competitor's price''
Of course the true...

Sunday Morning
Daddy smiling at me in a dream
With that proud love
That was only his to offer
Warning some blankface
With a half-tamed smile
"If you want to get thrown, try to mess
with my baby"
We were on a holiday
Cottonwood tufts floating in a
mellow summer heat
Viewed from topside angles
A fortress of joy in motion
Then, getting ready to leave
Sudden, strained, hurried
No makeup, no shoes
Running down a grand staircase
With a polar bear and a kitten
Almost comical--the taunting,...

For Taylor
That you will dream
Hopeful like the maiden
Virgin like the child
Brilliant as the snow
Warm by the fire
That you will learn
All there is to know
In a quiet hollow
Beneath a dome of soul
Not bricks, asphalt, and wire
Through this realm
Of heaven versus hell
The eternal swell
To see the tide from the other side
And swim, swim, swim.
Hopeful like the maiden
Virgin like the child
Brilliant as the snow
Warm by the fire
That you will learn
All there is to know
