Motherload

Reaching down
barely digging
extracting handfuls
sheets of yellowest gold
five decades of Autumns
mining this claim
wholly uncontested

Unabashedly consorting
with all manner of rakes
eschewing cacophonies
of puffed up blowhards

Young miners, at times,
appear less enthusiastic
laboring in crisp Fall air
they'll better appreciate
the seasonal exercise
when catapulting
on to piles
of gathered gilt treasure

Quitting for the day
stowing tools
depositing the haul
soon to meet
the refiners fire

The claim will yield,
many days to come
barrows-full of brilliance
as silently, bright yellow leaves
pirouette to the ground

Thar's gold on that there elm!

I took a poetry break whilst raking leaves beneath a beautiful elm in my parent's front yard..
