Hot Wassail On the Fire

(to the tune of "The House of the Rising Sun")

At Christmas time I'll buy some wine
To mull with fruit and spice—
With some cinnamon and cardamom
And grains-of-paradise

Some nutmeg seed, that's ground
To sprinkle in my cup
We'll drink it down 'till joy be found
Spirit warm us up!

Now, would you agree brown sugar's key
For holiday's delight?
Now, Eggnog is fine; but, give me wine
To toast His Holy Night

Some fresh Pineapple Juice
To make it sweeter still!
And Brandy, too; but, Rye will do
To warm this sinner's chill!

Well, Apples' hiss is not remiss!
Hot wassail's on the fire!
With orange peel to seal the deal
As tart as you desire!

Well, at Christmas time I'll buy some wine
To mull with fruit and spice—
To celebrate the coming of
Our Savior, Jesus Christ

Author's Note
...Because there aren't enough Blues/Rock 'n Roll Christmas carols, nor enough good recipes for wassail! I decided to try and tackle them both at once. Being a big fan of Eric Burdon and The Animals, I chose "The House of the Rising Sun" as the melody, for their version is my favorite. (The original composer of the melody is lost to time.)
