I wish someone
had told me
how much work
love really took
I wish someone
had told me
that there’s no such thing
as sparks
and soulmates
I wish someone
had told me
that everything before
would influence
everything after
I wish someone
had told me
that you never really know
if they mean it
if they’re the perfect one

So true but we still live in hope that the one is out there, admittedly now I'm paralyzed I can't see it happening for me but we can dream

I know the poem is really more negative in the light it casts but I also think it can be a positive thing. If all love takes is work and a little bit of hope its a lot easier to find and you have a lot more control over your life than if it was all controlled by 'fate' or whatever.

I think this poem should be live streamed on tv and screamed from mountain tops. You have succinctly put into words a lifetime of trying to find and believe all this nonsense. I think this is a brilliant write of pragmatic truth about love. Awesome piece. Welcome to DU.

Tho' poignantly gripping, Taitum 🥀
You've laid it all out beautifully upon the page, your distinctive poetic voice bringing every line and verse to life, sending the essence of it all straight to the deepest, most sensitive part of the heart … no romantic poet wants to feel such disappointment about love flowing from a poetess' beautiful soul.
Still, how can I, who've been through the most fiery trials and tribulations of amoré possibly deny such a powerfully open declaration of cathartic release to one who so obviously deserves it.
I must admit, Taitum, I felt my soul brim for you … it smiled, too, knowing how much enthrallment awaits your lovely, gentle heart.

Lies, lies, lies... when will we learn? Love is hard work. Not many people manage to figure it out. Trust me, it is only gonna make it better from here on.

The fantasy and imagination of others, most of the time just to sell books, never really offer the reality that in life, everything takes a lot of work. Whether it's work, family, education, friendships, we get back only what we get in. It's the same with movies (especially the rom-coms).
