Deflating
Let it down
that lead balloon
that led you here,
the one that swelled
and swayed within you
as if full of saline
or summers spent
poorly. Encourage others
to form an orderly queue,
to too undergo a bursting,
their own weighted cargo
spilt as tar
and ego upon the floor,
mopped by an on call nurse
who doesn't know
the fall you've endured
but her own length of shift,
her own bulbous holdall
expanding,
expanding.
Stop her in her tracks,
make an eye contact
that quivers the very edge
of two strangers meeting,
the fleeting moment
of all knowing empathy.
Let those heavy contents
wash down unclogged drains
out into a willing sea,
and give thanks
to that giant expanse
with fortitude
and a baptism
of lighter,
happier toes.
