shattered city
may the quest lie in the eyes of the greatest rescue,
may the destination lie in the heart of the evilest city
where the good are only corrupt
and the dirty and crooked are never to pity
clouds are closing over brilliant, shining sun
take out your carts, with darkness comes gain
the young ones empty puddles and bathe under gutters
welcome to the place that always longs for rain
lamps illuminated by day, cracked and useless by night
streets lain with aged and broken cobblestones
doorways remain open, though guests are not welcome
windows are empty with faces unknown
high above these streets of the deviously independent,
stays the princess in her tower, her power is nothing at all
she shrinks from the windows at any signs of light
she stands alone, afraid of the imminence of her fall.
the sun has become a shadow over her hope,
no family to speak of, no one to aide her fear
won't someone save her, the princess of gods,
she must wish for rain too, or else perish here.
